Suo Tempore, Chapter 76.

Translated from its latin origin to english, the saying Suo Tempore means, 'in his own time'.

When I graduated from University I gave myself one year to become a professional mixed martial artist. Although I was able to meet my ultimate goal of competing professionally, few people know that I failed to experience this goal in the time-frame that I had initially planned on.

After seven months of training I broke my hand wrestling and was forced to sit on the sidelines for five months. It took me another eight months of training before I was offered a fight on the other side of the country.

I took it, and won.

Having said that, I genuinely believe that if I had taken that exact offer 8 months earlier I would have rushed into a fight that I was more than likely unprepared for. Breaking my hand allowed me to put things in perspective and granted me an understanding of where I needed to be  athletically  before I even thought about  competing at that level again.

Although merely competing was the goal, I knew that if I had lost, I would never forgive myself for arriving at my ultimate destination unprepared.

And when I agreed to take that fight, although it was on short notice... I knew that I was ready.

After winning that fight I was offered to compete again six months later. The same offer was extended to me after winning that fight as well.

Although I knew I would never be a fighter that was considered to be the 'opposition' ' or  a 'journey-man'  per say, by no means did I ever envision a successful career or anything other than an intense experience and a personal challenge... and even though I only competed as a professional 3 times, the experiences I was able to partake in due to this decision have transcended far beyond fighting.

Suo Tempore.

After my last fight the promotion I had signed with folded and a handful of poor decisions and unfortunate happenings left me at a cross-road. And although professionally I feel that my 'career' is unfinished, from a personal stand-point, MMA   brought me more than I could have ever imagined.

Things happen when they will, I will compete when I am meant to compete. I will travel when I am meant to travel, and I will experience it all when I come across it.

All in my own time.

Maybe the promotion folding, endless fight offers falling through, and my back being injured were all signs that it was time for me to move on to the next challenge...

There is so much that I have yet to experience and  far too many unwritten pages to this story... I cannot allow any more sand to fall through the hour glass or any more blank pages to be turned while I wait...

In my time, I will be ready.

Suo Tempore.
